Resource savings and energy efficiency were the main concerns of the conceptual project, which established requirements such as the control of sunlight using solar shades on the large glazed spans that characterise the structure. The requirements of the centre are also evident in the complex networks supporting the R&D operation, particularly the electricity network by means of busbar channels, the compressed air network and the process water distribution network, as well as the advanced air conditioning system which allows full control of temperature in the building.
